Cinder Crete® The sensible sustainable building for Hawaii.

Cinder Crete Hawaii Inc. is a consulting and solutions provider for using Cinder and other related building materials to provide a sustainable building solution for new buildings and homes here in Hawaii. We mix cinder, a natural by product of volcanic eruption abundantly available in Hawaii with Hawaiian cement in a special mix and ratio that provides a unique building material that is free from pests, rust, rot, mold, fire and even bullet proof in some applications.

Cinder Crete® Information

Cinder Crete is a lightweight porous concrete made from pumice aggregate, cement, and water. This creates a honey comb like structure within the pour that provides exceptional insulation as well as impressive structural integrity together in one material. Unlike regular cement, Cinder Crete uses cinder in place of sand and normal aggregates. Since naturally occurring cinder found in nature is lightweight because of its porous makeup and the concrete used to bind the aggregate does not fill the spaces left between the aggregate, the mix once poured is very light weight but also very strong. Some form of suitable aggregate is available on every Hawaiian island. Being lightweight, Cinder Crete is reasonably easy to install. The product is mixed and poured on site into cement forms, which are removed 2 days later revealing a coarse texture that easily accepts plaster or any other variety of finishing materials. Because of the texture of the finished product you do not need any binding agents such as metal mesh or adhesives once again cutting waste and cost. The forms can be re-used again and again, even for years, making Cinder Crete a very low waste building material. Any left over material can be sold or used for other projects, such as paving driveways walls etc and is not considered waste. Traditional wooden building construction generates considerable amounts of material that is considered toxic waste.¹
